Babylon Musicians Earn All-County and All-State Honors

Five Babylon Junior-Senior High School music students have been selected for the NYSCAME Suffolk All-County ensembles this fall, with two also earning recognition at the All-State level.

Jonathan Acuña, Cassandra Blayne and Madison DeSena were selected for the NYSCAME Suffolk All-County Choirs, while Shane Sonkin and Juliet Gimberlein were chosen for the NYSCAME Suffolk All-County Bands. NYSCAME, the Suffolk chapter of the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education, selects top high school musicians in grades 11 and 12 based on their NYSSMA scores and teacher recommendations. Selected students rehearse with peers from across Suffolk County before performing in an All-County concert.

Shane was also selected for the All-State Symphonic Band as a tuba player, and Madison was named an All-State Soprano 1 Alternate. All-State ensembles bring together top student musicians from across New York State for several days of rehearsals and performances at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Winter Conference, which takes place this December in Rochester.

"We couldn't be prouder of our Babylon Panther musicians,” said District Music and Fine Arts Director Edward Storey. “Congratulations to all!"
