  • Writing: First graders write about various topics, including stories, reports, and letters. They transition from invented spelling to more accurate spelling.
  • Math: Students work on concepts like fact families, addition, subtraction, and other math skills.

Second Grade Curriculum:

  • Reading: Second graders read with greater fluency, interpret information from diagrams and graphs, and discuss similarities in characters and events across stories.
  • Writing: They produce different types of compositions, organize writing with a beginning, middle, and end, and focus more on content than handwriting mechanics.
  • Math: Second graders accurately decode multisyllable words, read irregularly spelled words, and use word identification strategies to unlock unknown words.
