Celebrating the BHS Class of 2026
Babylon Junior-Senior High School recently bid a bittersweet farewell to its Class of 2026 as members of the tight-knit community gathered to honor the departing students. The event served as both a celebration of past achievements and a launching pad for the future, with each speaker offering wisdom to guide the graduates forward.
Valedictorian Cassidy Hayes addressed the inevitable change and distance that lies ahead. "Growing apart does not change the fact that for a long time we grew side by side—our roots will forever be tangled," she said, reminding her classmates that while they are branching off to start different lives, they will carry pieces of one another wherever they go next.
Salutatorian Finn Chatterton spoke about the importance of surrounding oneself with people who both challenge and support you, reflecting on those who pushed and encouraged him along the way. "We worked hard because we respected each other," he said. "We knew that every time one of us raised the bar, the other would rise to meet it."
Principal Al Cirone encouraged the students to remain authentic and to choose their companions wisely. "Be you in the group," he said. "Don't let the group bring you down. Raise the group or find another huddle."
Superintendent Carisa Manza spoke of the class's resilience and promise. "When I look at you, I see hope. I see a class that cares, that takes great pride in its community, and that is ready and capable to shape what comes next," she said. Looking toward the future, Ms. Manza urged the students to keep their priorities front of mind. "As you grow, stay grounded, hold on to your family and your values, and remember simple joys and what truly matters," she said, adding, "always be kind."
