Babylon Elementary and High School Art Students Collaborate on Monster-Themed Art Project

Posted Date: 07/08/26 (04:26 PM)

A monster meetup of the most creative kind recently brought together students from across grade levels as Babylon Junior-Senior High School's National Art Honor Society visited Babylon Elementary School for a fun and collaborative art project.

The project began when elementary art teacher Mrs. Losito worked with her students, who drew their own unique monsters and gave them personalities—including names, habitats, favorite foods, and things they love. Then, the National Art Honor Society students under Mrs. Marinelli took those imaginative creations and brought them to life, painting detailed versions of the monsters, and sewing plush stuffie renditions of the characters.

The collaboration reached its peak when the Babylon high schoolers visited the elementary school to showcase their renditions of their younger peers' creations and work together to create additional stuffies. At the end of the day, the elementary students went home with all of the wonderful artwork they and their high school mentors had created.

The experience was a success, with students from both schools forming genuine bonds throughout the process. One elementary student was so taken with his high school mentor that he announced he would ask his mother if she could visit their house.

"Everyone had a great time," said outgoing Arts Director and teacher Cheryl Schweider, who retired at the end of this school year. "I hope that this partnership continues for many years to come."
