BMGS Mock Trial Students Take the Stand

Posted Date: 05/20/26 (02:00 PM)

Babylon Memorial Grade School's 5th and 6th grade Mock Trial team was recently honored after taking part in the Western Suffolk BOCES Mock Trial Competition, held in March at Suffolk County Community College's Selden Campus.

Since December, the students met twice a week, stepping into roles as attorneys, witnesses, and courtroom officials. They analyzed a fictional legal case, prepared arguments, memorized testimony, and learned legal procedures and vocabulary. The program helped students develop critical thinking, public speaking, reading comprehension, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the judicial system.

“Watching all of that preparation come to life at the competition was truly rewarding,” said advisors Jamie Brower and Briana Budney. “The students demonstrated confidence, professionalism, and maturity well beyond their years. They supported one another, adapted under pressure, and represented our school with integrity and pride.”
