Babylon’s 7th Graders Get a Head Start on Junior High

Posted Date: 9/06/24 (1:04 PM)

Babylon Junior-Senior High School’s incoming 7th graders recently had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the school’s layout and procedures at their annual orientation, held just before the start of the school year.

Led by members of the high school’s Peer Helpers, the 7th graders were split into groups and guided around the building, allowing them to get acquainted with their new surroundings after transitioning from Babylon Memorial Grade School. They were shown their homerooms, lockers, and the various classrooms they would need to locate in order to make it through the average school day.

The orientation also included a greeting from the high school administrators, and a question-and-answer session for both the new students and their families. Throughout the event, the Peer Helpers shared their knowledge and insights, drawing from their own experiences as former new students at the high school.

"We know that the transition into high school can be not only difficult but also scary for students," said Principal Al Cirone. "We hope we were able to take some of the guesswork out of the experience for both our new 7th graders and their parents or guardians."

"It is always wonderful to see our new students explore the high school for the first time," said Assistant Principal Melissa Callahan. "We look forward to watching them thrive in their new home for the next six years."
